4-star Georgian coaching inn with AA Rosette dining and a private skittles alley

Dining

The Kings Head holds an AA Rosette for its high-quality culinary experience. The menu uses fresh local produce, and dishes include a full English breakfast with local sausages and a Sunday roast that guests describe as generous. A separate specials board offers seasonal options like whole sea bream and venison bourguignon.

Rooms

Each room is individually styled with antique furnishings and modern amenities. The Spitfire Suite is split across three levels with a bathroom down two flights of stairs from the bedroom. Some rooms have a bath and a separate freestanding shower, while others include a warming rack in the bathroom.

Entertainment

The hotel has a unique skittles alley available for private hire, which guests use for parties and family gatherings. A jazz band plays in the beer garden on selected afternoons. Live music events are hosted in the bar area periodically.

Location

The Kings Head is a 10-minute drive from Winchester city centre and 25 minutes from Southampton and the Isle of Wight ferries. South Winchester Golf Club is 1.9 miles away. New Forest National Park, National Motor Museum, and Beaulieu Palace House are within easy driving distance.

Pet Policy

The hotel is dog-friendly and welcomes pets in designated areas. Dogs receive special treats during their stay. Bar menu items are available in areas where dogs are allowed.

The Kings Head offers spacious and comfortable rooms, some featuring lovely touches like Christmas trees. Many guests appreciate the large bathrooms and comfortable beds, finding the rooms well-equipped with amenities such as coffee makers and kettles. The pub's location, sometimes described as charming and opposite the church, is convenient, with a bus stop across the street for easy access to Winchester; however, a few guests have mentioned concerns regarding cleanliness in certain rooms. The room got uncomfortably warm. No air conditioning made sleeping difficult. i also had issues with the shower. The water pressure fluctuated a lot. this made it hard to get a consistent temperature, and it was a bit annoying, we loved the pool. but the view was amazing!
